His name was Antonio Gaud\u00ed, and the building would be Casa Botines. In fact, Gaud\u00ed received two commissions, in Le\u00f3n the construction of a new Episcopal Palace in Astorga (commissioned by his countryman Joan Baptista Grau) and the Casa Botines, in Le\u00f3n. The latter is now a museum with a collection of Goya&#8217;s Caprichos and paintings by artists such as Sorolla and Ram\u00f3n Casas, among others. You can visit Gaud\u00ed&#8217;s underdeck and tower, with a beautiful view of Le\u00f3n. It also consists of a &#8220;Professor C\u00e9sar Garc\u00eda \u00c1lvarez&#8221; library that is made up of some 2000 volumes and specialized in Art History and Museology, as well as having a special collection dedicated to Gaud\u00ed.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Currently\nIt consists of two exhibitions on Gaud\u00ed:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>    <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabotines.es\/visita\/\">Gaud\u00ed, the architect of dreams. An exhibition space dedicated to the life and work of the genius of modernism.<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>    <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabotines.es\/visita\/\">Living in Gaud\u00ed&#8217;s Time: Historical Recreation of the Homes of Messrs. Fern\u00e1ndez and Andr\u00e9s (1893).<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this link you can learn more about the exhibition <a href=\"https:\/\/www.casabotines.es\/visita\/\">https:\/\/www.casabotines.es\/visita\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The curious thing is that, in one of the plans of the building\nelevation, scale 1:100, which is dated Barcelona, December 1891, where\nThe master&#8217;s idea of the figure he had can be clearly appreciated\nplanned to be placed in the future construction, was that the figure of St George. And\nToday it is known that the modelling of Sant Jordi was carried out in Barcelona last year.\n1892, by the faithful collaborator of the Catalan architect, for many years,\nLorenzo Matamala Pi\u00f1ol 1856-1927, with the sculptor himself as a model,\nso much so that the dragon was taken from one of those who were put in the\nbuttresses of the Sagrada Familia.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-circle-mask\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cas-botin.jpg\" alt=\"Did you know that Gaud&#xED;'s Casa Botines in Le&#xF3;n is a dragon?\" class=\"wp-image-3836\" width=\"434\" height=\"420\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cas-botin.jpg 468w, https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cas-botin-300x290.jpg 300w, https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Cas-botin-36x36.jpg 36w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 434px) 100vw, 434px\" \/><figcaption><br\/>  The plans of the raised building, scale 1:100, which is dated Barcelona, December 1891, where the master&#8217;s idea of the figure that he planned to place in the future construction can already be clearly appreciated.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1893, 42 years later, it was agreed to repair the stone figure of Sant Jordi, above the main door&#8221;, this was not enough in 1952, &#8220;the state of decomposition of the stone, with very deep cracks in the most pronounced relief, head of the saint and the dragon, arms and legs&#8221;. It no longer contemplated &#8220;the possibility of a settlement&#8221;, it was agreed, without further delay, &#8220;to proceed to dismantle the figure of Sant Jordi<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And it was when the group was dismantled\nin December 1952, when the happy discovery took place in his\ninside a <strong>lead tube containing:<\/strong> the only two\nExisting plans of &#8220;Casa Botines&#8221; floor plan and elevation signed by the\nteacher; several copies of the Le\u00f3n newspaper &#8220;El Campe\u00f3n&#8221; of January and February\n1892, with news about the site on which Gaud\u00ed finally worked; and the\nThe famous &#8220;act&#8221; of the building, in which the promoters of the work, gentlemen\nFernandez and Andres, left a detailed record of the construction schedule,\nas well as those responsible for it, in all its facets.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The time had come for the figure of the Catalan patron saint to be placed again on the fa\u00e7ade of &#8220;Casa Botines&#8221;, and as we know from precise testimonies that have survived to this day, collected mostly in the press of the time, the replacement of Sant Jordi took place between June 2 and 8, 1956.  two days before the 30th anniversary of Gaud\u00ed&#8217;s death.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-circle-mask\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Imagen-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3860\" width=\"376\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Imagen-1.png 539w, https:\/\/barcelonaartoftravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Imagen-1-300x201.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 376px) 100vw, 376px\" \/><figcaption>Figure of Sant Jordi and the dragon on the fa\u00e7ade of Casa Botines.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gaud\u00ed has already shown, in the\nsigned in December 1891, his intention to place the sculptural group of the\n&#8220;Sant Jordi and the dragon&#8221; on the south or main fa\u00e7ade of &#8220;Casa\nBoots.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Who left that lead tube inside the statue of St George?<\/strong>  And why, is a mystery that remains unsolved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At the end of the 19th century, in 1887, a young architect who had never left Barcelona crossed the peninsula to build a textile warehouse in Le\u00f3n.
