The \u201cCasal Gurgu\u00ed\u201d.<\/strong> Manuel Angel\u00f3n Street<\/p>

The turret in Manuel Angelon Street, where Merc\u00e8 Rodoreda was born, was owned by her grandfather; probably he himself baptized it with the name of \u201cCasal Gurgu\u00ed\u201d, with the idea of giving some importance to the house and the family, always ready to celebrate parties and poetic events, such as some floral games in the neighborhood.<\/p>

In the Casal Gurgu\u00ed there was a dovecote that inspired the motif of the pigeons in the novel \u201cLa plaza del Diamant\u201d.<\/p>

Located in the Diamant square<\/strong> we can visit the air raid shelter, which allows us to talk about the novel from the historical point of view, with references to the civil war. From here, we can partially reconstruct the landscape of Nat\u00e0lia\/Colometa: her apartment in Montseny street; Gran de Gracia Street, with its stores and shop windows, some of which still remind us, nowadays, how they must have been at the time of the characters in the novel.<\/p>

During the second half of the 19th century, Barcelona’s wealthy families began to renovate farmhouses and build new houses to house their summer residences.<\/p>

The Sagnier House<\/strong> is one of them.<\/p>

As in her work \u201cEl espejo roto\u201d (The Broken Mirror), she speaks of the Valldaura’s chalets “At the foot of the gate there was a very wide path, lined with chestnut trees; in the background, the house, three stories high, with two towers and green brick roofs, covered with ivy whose leaves were adquiring a reddish hue, was outlined against an autumn sky”\u00a0 (Merc\u00e8 Rodoreda, Broken Mirror, p. 62)<\/p>
