Previously there was an early Christian basilica from the 4th century.
Later there was a Romanesque church, which was demolished, there is still the Chapel of Santa Lucía and later the Gothic Cathedral, the Santa Creu began to rise in 1298 thanks to the contributions of more modest faithful and the Catalan bourgeoisie. Only the baptistery remains of this period.
The main facade and the tower were completed around 1890, following a neo-Gothic style. SXIX, from the plans of the Middle Ages.
It consists of 25 side chapels, highlighting the Mare de Déu de la Mercè and San Marc chapels. A “silent” cloister from the 14th century, due they host a group of live geese, althoug still is peace and beautifull place.
We also highlight a magnificent choir stalls and the Chapter House.
La Pietat Desplà, a Gothic altarpiece with Renaissance airs dating from the 15th century and which is the masterpiece of the Cordoba painter Bartolomé Bermejo, a work that was in the Prado Museum for years and since 2017 has recovered the Cathedral of Barcelona. well worth a visit.
Of great beauty are the pulpit and the crypt where the remains of one of the patrons of Barcelona, Santa Eulàlia, to whom the temple is dedicated, among other important pieces.
