Previously there was an early Christian basilica from the fourth century.
Later there was a Romanesque church, which was demolished, the chapel of Santa Lucía and later the Gothic Cathedral, the Santa Creu began to be built in 1298 thanks to the contributions of the more modest faithful and the Catalan bourgeoisie.
The main façade and tower were completed around 1890, in a neo-Gothic style. Nineteenth century, based on the plans of the Middle Ages.
It consists of 25 side chapels, including the Mare de Déu de la Mercè and the San Marc. A “silent” cloister from the 14th century, due to the fact that it houses a group of geese, peace and beauty still reign.
We also highlight a magnificent choir stalls and the Chapter House.
La Pietat Desplà, a Gothic altarpiece with a Renaissance air dating from the 15th century and which is the masterpiece of the Cordovan painter Bartolomé Bermejo.A work that was in the spotlight for years Prado Museum and which since 2017 has recovered the Cathedral of Barcelona, well worth a visit.
Of great beauty are the pulpit and the crypt where the remains of one of the patron saints of Barcelona, Santa Eulàlia, to whom the temple is dedicated, among other important pieces.
