LITERARY, CULTURAL AND ARTISTIC ROUTE THROUGH NINETEENTH-CENTURY BARCELONA

Immerse yourself in a tour with a lot of literary, cultural and artistic charm, as well as visiting the summer houses and typical neighborhoods of Barcelona families in the second half of the nineteenth century.

Our official guide will tell us about the cultural and artistic scene of Barcelona. And it will take us through the neighborhood of Gracia where Mercé Rodoreda lived and was inspired for her best-known novel La plaza del Diamant, among many other works.

As for the typical summer residences of Barcelona families, we will visit “La Casa Sagnier” and the “Casal Gurguí”. Passing through the St Felip passage where we will mention Josep Plà, responsible for drawing a note of the transformation of the neighborhood.

Option 1: The visit includes an excursion to the Sierra de Collserola, a Villa Joana second home house, which hosted the first contemporary of Catalan literature: the poet Jacint Verdaguer in the last years of his life. A tour where the poet’s burial chamber is preserved allows us to see his work, the imaginative universes he wove, his relationships with the powerful and the strength he was able to radiate.

Villa Joana welcomed and sheltered students with special needs for half a century.

We will have the experience of tasting Catalan food in a typical farmhouse of the area.

Option 2: We will pass by Casa Leopoldo on Sant Rafael street. We’ll visit “24”, another of the restaurants frequented by both the writer and his literary character Pepe Carvalho. We will visit the National Archive of Catalonia, the Cathedral, El Borne, following a common thread of writers such as Mercé Rodoreda, Caterina Albert or Maria Aurèlia Capmany, granddaughter of the intellectual Sebastià Farnés, author of the Comparative Catalan Paremiology who spent his youth in the family flat next to the Rambla in Barcelona. All of this is duly documented by the official guide.

Followed by a tasting in a restaurant in the Santa Caterina market, with tastings of Catalan cuisine.
