We propose you to travel back in time, to a time that left many wounds in Barcelona: the Civil War from 1936 to 1939.
We will see the places that still bear the scars of this sad warlike facet that made the city revolutionary, cultural and resistant.
On July 19, 1936, in the Montjuïc stadium, a People’s Olympiad was to be inaugurated, but the fascist generals decided to spoil the party with a military coup to which the city responded. It was not a unanimous reaction, but between the armed forces loyal to the Generalitat and the new popular militias they managed to stop the uprising, after two days of fighting the beginning of the long Civil War.
With the help of our specialized guide, we propose a visit to the different emblematic buildings that were confiscated during the conflict. We will take a look from another perspective, such as the Pedrera converted into the headquarters of the Ministry of Economy, the disappeared Hotel Colón in Plaça de Catalunya requisitioned by the Unified Socialist Youth and the Ritz Hotel converted into the popular dining room of that time.
We will go along the Via Laietana and the different streets of Barcelona that in May 1937 were filled with barricades and corpses. We will tell you about the religious buildings burned by the uncontrolled patrols of the military who also chased priests and bourgeoisie in an indiscriminate night hunt.
Then we will visit the Plaza de San Felipe Neri, the Gran Vía and the Coliseum theater, iconic sites for the rain of bombs that led to a historic massacre of children and civilians.
Metro stops were used as shelters, while new floors were built, some of which are preserved today.
